Jack and Brillian Handando live and farm off a dirt track in southern Zambia. By opting to receive part of their payment, for cotton, on e-vouchers the family has been able invest in assets and also use the e-vouchers as a money management tool.

Electronic Payments for Family Assistance in Fiji

Makereta Miramira is one of many recipients of monthly family assistance, from the Fiji Government, through the Department of Social Welfare. In 2010, the Fiji government introduced a system where welfare recipients were paid, for the first time, through a bank account. With her money in the bank and her growing business, Makereta is now saving for a rainy day.
